Outside The Cube News What's New at Outside The Cube http://www.outsidethecube.ca/WhatsNew.aspx http://backend.userland.com/rss Yukon Landscape Breaks Through Urban Noise
In mid-April Outside the Cube, the Agency of Record for Tourism Yukon, employed a unique marketing approach to break through the advertising clutter in Toronto.

“Toronto is a key market for Tourism Yukon but making an impact through all the noise can be a challenge, so rather than just telling Torontonians how great Yukon is, we wanted them to actually feel it,” said Dee Enright, Lead Strategist of the account and President and CEO of Outside the Cube. “We wanted to create an experience and have them share that experience. The kind of awe that we see when people come to visit.”

The agency decided that contrasting the pristine wilderness, northern lights, midnight sun, culture and iconic drives of Yukon to the urban soundscape of Toronto was the way to go. Using projection mapping that included film and sound, Outside the Cube worked with Media Merchants to secure high profile locations and develop stunning Yukon Portals that would transport people from their regular surroundings.

“We developed six videos, each of which represents a pillar of our Yukon tourism product. They were about 40 seconds each so they only provided a small taste of what we have to offer. The portals were surrounded in a display of Northern Lights and included the sounds of paddling, dog teams, First Nations drumming and silence. They were a stark contrast to the street lights and sirens of Toronto,” said Enright. “It was amazing to see people stop in their tracks, record the videos on their phones, take photos and share them. For that short time period we allowed them to feel what they could feel if they visited Yukon.”

The campaign ran for three consecutive nights in such high profile locations as outside the Air Canada Center before, during and after a Leafs game, on The Esplanade on a busy Friday night when a Blue Jays game was on and bars and restaurants were overflowing, and then on Saturday at the busy corner of Young and Gould. The locations were chosen based on research that indicated where the segment that Yukon Tourism targets spends their time, and which activities they enjoy.

The release of the video compilation that captured some of the reactions of passersby is being shared on their YouTube channel and on a number of platforms online. Outside the Cube and Volunteer Yukon are joining in the action with the launch of a new initiative.

The Corporate Social Responsibility Challenge will recognize businesses in the territory who support non-profit organizations and events, as well as encourage their employees to volunteer their time in the community. The goal is to foster social responsibility throughout Yukon’s private section, inviting companies to assist Yukon non-profit organizations and promoting the importance of volunteers.

“Volunteers are vital in each and every Yukon Community,” said Volunteer Yukon Board President Noreen McGowan. “Businesses in Yukon support a number of events and activities each year; their support can be in the form of donations, in-kind contributions, and in encouraging their staff to volunteer and to get involved in community activities. We want to recognize and encourage that support.”

Businesses who register with Volunteer Yukon for the Corporate Social Responsibility Challenge will be recognized with a listing on the Volunteer Yukon website, mentioned in the Yukon Chamber of Commerce newsletter and promoted through traditional and social media outlets.

Volunteer Yukon identified OTC as a leader in corporate social responsibility, and asked us to lead the challenge. Cubers have dedicated countless hours to volunteering and the company supports the communities they work in with sponsorship dollars to numerous local organizations and events, as well as a donation of services.

“Outside the Cube has a set of pretty simple core values and giving back is one of them,” said President and CEO Dee Enright. “I believe businesses build communities not just economies and we each have a responsibility to give back to the communities that allow us to succeed. We can’t just take – our team are part of the community and what matters to them matters to OTC.”

Volunteers play a critical role in Yukon. Many organizations in the territory rely on the leadership and dedication of volunteers in order to be successful. Demonstrate your commitment to social responsibility and help enhance your corporate image and reputation by joining Volunteer Yukon and OTC in their quest and becoming part of the Corporate Social Responsibility Challenge.
http://www.outsidethecube.ca/News/13-04-23/OTC_Challenges_Local_Businesses_to_Give_Back.aspx echo http://www.outsidethecube.ca/News/13-04-23/OTC_Challenges_Local_Businesses_to_Give_Back.aspx 4777d136-0a65-47e2-bb8e-45afd2d440f1 Tue, 23 Apr 2013 12:33:31 GMT We’re on the hunt for two new Cubers!
Are you energetic with a great sense of humour? This meant three of our staff travelling the trail from start to finish, working around the clock to bring fans on Facebook and Twitter the latest results and anecdotes. OTC also wrote press releases on behalf of the organization, and handled interview requests from media both on and off the trail.

The Yukon Quest Facebook page has over 17, 500 fans and the Twitter account has more than 1,500 followers. OTC purchased the frozen turkeys, in the names of our clients, and made the special delivery on Thursday.

The poultry will be distributed to families in need throughout the holiday season. OTC President & CEO Dee Enright is challenging other businesses in Whitehorse and Yukon to join in the cause.

“I think businesses have an obligation to contribute and give back to the communities that support them," says Enright. "It doesn't matter how big or small the donation. If each member of TIAY, the Whitehorse Chamber, Yukon Chamber, Chamber of Mines, YCB, Main Street Association and others, gave just one turkey – imagine how many families would have dinner!

“OTC will even deliver the turkeys for you if you drop them off at our office. We are excited to welcome Maud Caron as an Account Manager at our head office in Whitehorse.

“Adding Maud to our team gives OTC the only francophone marketing team I know of in the North. I grew up in the Eastern Townships of Quebec and having a bilingual company has always been a dream for me,” said Dee Enright, CEO of Outside the Cube. “Patric Chaussé – who leads our creative team – and Maud will work with all our clients, but their language skills allow us to ensure we can provide fully bilingual services.

“With more and more of our work outside the territories in places like Ottawa for national clients, service in both official languages is a plus. We also have been fortunate to work with Francophone Associations and businesses in the three territories and really wanted to be able to serve that sector.”

Maud is fully bilingual in French and English, and brings a wide variety of experience in tourism ranging from wilderness guiding to coordinating Pan Territorial marketing. She most recently worked at Tourism Yukon, as a Consumer Marketing Specialist.

“Being able to do great work in both English and French with a team of people who love what they do is exciting,” said Caron. “I have had the opportunity to work with Outside the Cube in some of my other roles and I think it will be a great fit. I like to challenge myself, achieve objectives and have fun and I love tourism – what more could I ask!”

Maud was the Coordinator of the Francophone Pan Territorial tourism campaign, the Tourism Development Officer for the Association franco-yukonnaise, and was a Communication Officer for the French women’s group Les EssentiElles, as well as a Project Coordinator for the Francophone Health Network in Whitehorse.

We saw some fantastically bad ads – because we like to laugh at ourselves, we shared one of our “uh-ohs” as well!

The prizes included a quarter page ad in the 2013 Yukon Vacation Planner, with ad design by OTC, a gift card to Volare restaurant and some delicious bison burgers.

The winners of the OTC TIAY contest were:

1st place: Northern Vision Development, with "Youkon"

2nd place: Yukon Convention Bureau, with "Guess what's coming?"

3rd place: Brian S., with "Air Canada in Beaver Creek"

Thank you to everyone who participated and we will see you all next year!

*If you spot a marketing blunder, feel free to share with us on our Facebook page!

http://www.outsidethecube.ca/News/12-05-02/Making_the_Most_of_Marketing_Mistakes.aspx echo http://www.outsidethecube.ca/News/12-05-02/Making_the_Most_of_Marketing_Mistakes.aspx f476b6f7-a610-4fec-95b0-e8082ffda23e Wed, 02 May 2012 14:07:00 GMT We're Hiring!
The Cube is growing and we're on the lookout for some smart, talented people to work on fun projects.
